The Innovation in Lambeth Award
Winner: The Family Nurse Partnership team, Evelina London Children's Hospital
The Family Nurse Partnership team were nominated by Dan Stoten.
The team created an impressive new development programme to help fathers-to-be in Brixton Prison play the role of Dad following release from prison.
Last year, the prison reached out for suggestions on how the fathers-to-be could be supported and the team broke new ground by developing a whole new programme of learning for this group of men to be delivered in a completely new setting within the prison.
The team went into the prison to deliver support sessions that were tailored to the specific needs of each of the men. They have delivered a hugely person-centric scheme and this programme will ultimately improve the quality of life of the children whose fathers attended. This is a fantastic example of a preventative and innovative intervention.
The nurses who have delivered this programme have found it to be a really useful learning process and the prison has been absolutely delighted with the results. We were delighted to hear that they have agreed to fund two more programmes during 2019/20.
We look forward to hearing more about the programme in the future. Well done to the team for going the extra mile!
