Don't turn finding health help into a long hunt this Easter
Finding health advice and treatment doesn't mean hunting high and low this Easter. People in Lambeth can use Health Help Now, the app and website to help find suitable treatment and advice when they need health help, especially when GP practices are closed.
Dr Adrian McLachlan, chair of NHS Lambeth CCG advises that everyone who lives and works in Lambeth download Health Help Now in preparation for the long Easter weekend.
Dr McLachlan says: "The Health Help Now app is a really useful tool for local residents to find the best NHS service to meet their needs anywhere in Lambeth.
"No matter where you are in the borough, if you need health help and advice in a hurry, late at night or at the weekend, the app will quickly direct you to the most appropriate place nearby, so you can be confident that you're getting the right help."
Especially useful when GP practices will be closed for four days, Health Help Now advises where else to find treatment for common symptoms over the bank holiday, and gives opening times and directions.
Dr McLachlan says: "Health Help Now has advice on common physical and mental health symptoms for people of all ages. It will suggest what the alternatives to visiting a GP practice or A&E are and where to find help over the long bank holiday.
"People often go to the doctor with a minor ailment or condition because they are unsure how long symptoms should last and want reassurance that it isn't anything more serious. But before contacting the out-of-hours GP service, it's worthwhile paying a visit to your local pharmacist.
"The pharmacist can explain the normal duration of ailments and give advice on symptom relief. It is also important to remember that antibiotics cannot help relieve symptoms of colds and flu as these are viruses. Taking antibiotics unnecessarily can reduce their effectiveness when taken for ailments that they can help with."
It is also important to make sure you have collected repeat prescriptions and have enough medication to last until Tuesday when your GP practice will reopen.
Be prepared for the bank holiday by saving the website – www.healthhelpnow-nhs.net - to your favourites now or search your app store for 'Health Help Now' to download it for free.
