The Kindess Award
Winner: Esme-Kate Bermingham, Long-Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT) Nurse, Integrated Respiratory Team, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Esme-Kate is one of two LTOT nurses covering patients in Lambeth and Southwark.
She is incredibly dedicated to her patients, putting their safety, comfort and wellbeing first every day. Esme-Kate takes time to get to know patients and their families, finding out what matters to them and helping them to achieve it. She is a consistent source of reassurance, comfort and honesty and a number of families have thanked her for enabling patients to pass away comfortably according to their wishes
As the NHS unfortunately cannot fund oxygen for trips outside of the UK, Esme-Kate has assisted numerous patients to arrange their oxygen to make sure they can go to funerals or trips to loved ones as far away as Jamaica.
Impressively, she also once ordered and built a shed for a patient who was close to the end of his life as he had no ground floor storage, which is required for liquid oxygen.
Her team said: "Esme-Kate is not just a role model to our team, but an exemplar to the whole borough."
We would like to thank Esme for the true kindness she brings to her nursing role in Lambeth.
