Winner: Youth Offending Service Health Team, Lambeth Council

The Youth Offending Service Health Team were nominated by Ellanora Clarke.

This team ensures that children and young people known to the Criminal Justice System receive a coordinated response to their health needs.

The multidisciplinary team consists of a number of professionals including a counselling psychologist, mental health nurse, speech and language therapists, a substance misuse worker and a GP. They work with the drug, alcohol and sexual health services and Liaison and Diversion services in the Borough.

When children and young people enter the Criminal Justice System there is a risk that the offending nature of their behaviour overshadows other vulnerabilities. This team help children and young people who enter the Criminal Justice System by working to ensure any vulnerabilities they have are not overshadowed by their offending nature.

As part of this, the team ensure that the health needs of this group are always considered and made a priority. The team works to provide person centred care and helps young people and their families to better manage their own care.

This is a fantastic example of a team working together and utilising different skillsets to improve outcomes for young people.

A huge thanks to the team for their dedication to the important work they do.
