​Get Active this Summer Holiday with your Kids

Change4Life is encouraging families this summer to plan activities that promote movement

This summer, the Change4Life campaign is encouraging families in the UK to make healthier choices. There are themed months throughout the year, and this summer Change4Life is encouraging families to get active. Kids need to be active for 60 minutes a day. From games, hobbies and sports there are plenty of opportunities this summer to promote active living in your family. Change4Life has introduced fun ways to get your daily dose of activity through fun videos like Train Like A Jedi where Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones guides you through 12 special moves which will help you master the ways of the Jedi.

Obesity levels have been increasing rapidly worldwide for the past two decades. The World Health Organisation has labelled it a global epidemic. The WHO has estimated the UK to be among the most overweight countries in the world, and according to government figures, the UK is now the fattest country in Europe.

Dr Adrian McLachlan, Chair of Lambeth CCG said: "It is incredibly important that parents encourage their children to be active to reduce child obesity rates in Lambeth. There has been a significant increase in health problems in children that are normally only seen in adults such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

The summer holiday is the perfect opportunity to plan something fun to do with your family outside to get active."
