Young Carer of the Year Award
Winner: Shantavia Robinson [pictured front left]
Shantavia was nominated by Alice Dias.
Shantavia is a carer for her mother, who has chronic kidney disease.
Shantavia collects her mum's medication from the pharmacy and always makes sure she has her medication and everything else she might need before leaving the house. Even though she has always had a lot of extra responsibilities as a child, as a teenager and now as a young adult, Shantavia is doing really well in education and is going to university this year.
Along with other young carers, Shantavia set up a young carers group in her school. The group is highly valued by the other young carers and we've heard that, in particular, the younger ones look up to her.
At Lambeth Young Carers, she has always shown her sense of humour, her kindness and respect to others.
