Winner: Dr Tarek Radwan [centre], GP Director and Founder of AT Medics, Streatham Place Surgery

Dr Tarek Radwan was nominated by Tahira Kamran.

Dr Radwan is a compassionate and hardworking GP, whose main focus is improving quality to improve patients' lives.

As you will all be aware, diabetes is a major challenge facing the NHS today and Dr Radwan tackles this by introducing and leading a Diabetes Improvement Project using a Quality Improvement approach, across all 37 AT Medics practices.

Patients have commented on how pleased they were that their health issues are being proactively addressed. There is now a streamlined recall process and upskilling the pharmacist workforce through web-based education has been a key positive outcome. A step change in National Diabetes Audit targets was achieved in a space of 9 months.

The replication of these improvements across multiple practices provides evidence that the model can facilitate rapid clinical improvements in General Practice. If these outcomes are maintained and improved, patients can expect reductions in morbidity and mortality from diabetes.

Shortlisted:

  • Dr Harpal Harrar, Sandmere Practice
  • Dr Himanshu Patel and Dr Robert Berks, Vassall Road Medical Centre
